Challenge Based Learning CBL

This semester 6W will be engaging with our History unit around Australian Colonies through the platform of Challenge Based Learning.  CBL is an initiative of Apple Education that uses technology in real ways to identify needs in our communities and take action to meet those needs.

Challenge Based Learning...

is an engaging multidisciplinary approach to teaching and learning that encourages learners to leverage the technology they use in their daily lives to solve real-world problems. Challenge Based Learning is collaborative and hands-on, asking students to work with peers, teachers, and experts in their communities and around the world to ask good questions, develop deep subject area knowledge, identify and solve challenges, take action, and share their experience.

See the process in action with Year 5 & 6 kids!  Ringwood North's Example of Challenge Based Learning around Resilience and Natural Disasters.

Our big idea is Tolerance.

We will be exploring what tolerance means and the essential question of how British colonisation of Australia shaped our views of people from different cultures.

To get us thinking about this essential question, we viewed this proposal video, then used the Question Sort thinking routine to generate questions we want to research about the topic.

Finally, we will be exploring ways to meet the challenge How can we increase tolerance towards people from other cultures in our Northern Beaches community?

6W students will work in groups to propose solutions to this real world problem themselves, and work together to implement their solutions.

It will be an exciting learning journey for us all and we look forward to taking on the challenge!
